Post Description

This is very much a concept album, IX is music for both brain hemispheres--emotion and intellect. For example, "Proceed" takes the theme of a father preparing to share with his son the inexpressible wisdom he had received from his own father. The wimp boys of pop, long on talent and short on depth, would never take on such a theme! Bendik brings a lively, sensual, savvy maturity--not something that would ever wow the masses on pop radio, but something a thoughtful person might enjoy after many listens.

My personal tastes are in music that is even more visionary and instrumentally virtuosic. That said, most of what I really like is not very accessible to most people. Bendik is. Each tune is creative, evocative, and profound in its own way. The variety will move you through the collection, and bring you back again and again. The production is excellent, with some nice touches of expression that invite a close listen to every tasteful note. My favorite tune, "Passacaglia", is perhaps the most energized.

Finally, the collection is even more intellectually founded than I can truly appreciate. Nine categories of "interconnecting themes and ideas"--from Greek muses, myths, colors, a meal, etc.--are attached to each song. So those wanting to find "meaning" in these have the opportunity. Bendik gives me plenty without all that
